CEMSI volunteers to the International Coastal Clean-Up 2025

Manila Bay – In honor of this year’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day, Cleanway Environmental Management Solutions, Inc. proudly participated in the coastal cleanup effort alongside the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources and other private sector volunteers. It was celebrated in the Manila Bay area on September 20, 2025.

ICC Day, a program held every year on the third Saturday in September, is regarded as the biggest volunteer event for ocean health in the world. Volunteers are organized by the event to clear rubbish from lakes, rivers, beaches, and other waterways. Nine of the coastal locations used for the ICC 2025 events in the Philippines were in the National Capital Region.

The livelihoods of coastal communities are at risk, ecosystems are disrupted, and marine life is seriously threatened by marine trash, especially plastics. The ICC urges everyone to support sustainable behaviors, engage in group action, and fulfill our common duty as environmental stewards.

Additionally, September continues to be a crucial month for raising awareness of maritime issues and the value of our oceans and coastal ecosystems. September is designated as Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo) annually by Presidential Proclamation No. 316, Series of 2017.

The decree promotes three national and international memorial events pertaining to the maritime environment, including “International Coastal Cleanup Day.” The MANAMo celebrations serve as a vital reminder of the vital role our waters play in maintaining biodiversity, sustaining livelihoods, and combating climate change. The other two events are “National Maritime Day” and “Fish Conservation Week.”

Together with other ocean stewards, Cleanway is committed to maintaining the integrity of our marine ecosystems and the beauty of our coastal regions.

Cleanway commits to Earth Hour 2025

Manila, Philippines – Beyond the hour shutdown last 2024, Cleanway is committed to conserving resources for the entire year as part of its Earth Hour pledge. Based on the Annual Consumption Records, water use was efficientlty monitored as it decreased by 5.27%. Similarly, energy consumption went down by 13.11% as part of the reinforced program on electricity savings and the overall energy efficiency program. This is our commitment to Mother Earth beyond the one-hour power shutdown of our three facility plants in Cavite, Tarlac and Leyte, and we are looking forward to our 2025 efficiency program performance.

Barangay Incentive on Efficient Segregation

Silang, Cavite- CEMSI collaborated with the Municipal Environmental and Natural Resources Office of Silang to raise awareness on solid waste management. CEMSI’s P50,000 cash donation aims to reintroduce and incentivize MENRO’s program on efficient barangay waste segregation. Two barangays were recognized for their environmental efforts. Barangay Biga I and Paligawan received P25,000 incentive from CEMSI to continue their efforts in plastic and tin can segregation. Solid waste management should start in our homes, and with the help of the Barangay Leaders, it can create greater progress to protect our environment.

Donation to Oil Spill Clean-up Operations

Trece Martires City – Cleanway, in coordination with the Rotary Club of Eisenhower, donated 50 units of 200L plastic drums for the Bataan oil spill response program of the Provincial Government of Cavite. Due to monsoon winds, most of the oil went to the shores of Cavite’s coastal towns affecting livelihood and posing environmental risks. Receiving the donation are Rhoda Periodico and Ferdinand Belamide and the PGENRO team for the Provincial Government of Cavite.

CEMSI Partners with FEED, Rotary, UP Land Grant in Sierra Madre

Sierra Madre – CEMSI Silang and Tarlac partners with Fostering Education & Environment for Development or FEED Inc. and Rotary Club of Eisenhower for its annual tree planting activity in the UP Laguna-Quezon Land Grant. The location is situated at the end of the Sierra Madre Ridge bordering the two provinces. After a 15-minute hike, 350 native Philippine trees were planted along the slopes. Here, seedlings are monitored by the local community and professional Forest rangers. Activity sites are also available with GPS for quick location reference of the planted trees.

Do you know that there is a law requiring every citizen of this country to plant trees? PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1153 requires the planting of one tree every month for five consecutive years. Section 2 of the said decree states that “In furtherance of said policy, every citizen of the Philippines at least ten (10) years of age, actually residing therein, unless physically disabled to do so, shall plant one tree every month for five (5) consecutive years.” Now you know it’s the responsibility of every Filipino! Plant one now! Or plant 12 for the year! It’s better to plant 60 in a day!

Simultaneous Clean-Up for Earth Hour 2024

Nationwide – CEMSI Tarlac joins the DENR PENRO Manila Bay Tarlac Clean-Up Activity at Cutcut River as part of its commitment to serve the community. The company heeded the call of the local government to be at the forefront of environmental awareness campaign. This also coincides with the company’s effort to support Earth Hour 2024 by enriching the campaign with worthwhile environmental activities. In celebration of the World Water Day, a Simultaneous Clean-Up Activity for the Adopt-an-estero/ Waterbody Program last March 22 was led by the LIDE Locators composed of CPI, EMAI, FAG, Grand Terra, HKIAMPI, IASCO, LMC, Petron, RPMI, LGU Isabel, Bilwang Community. Cleanaway Philippines, Inc. has adopted Bilwang as its program beneficiary for the past several years now. The event was also part of CPI’s commitment to the Earth Hour 2024. While at the Main Plant in Silang, employees engaged in their regular inspection and cleaning of Labuyo Creek in Barangay Maguyam. Sharing Hazwaste Treament Sustainability at 2024 PCEDM Convention

Pasay City – Together in environmental advocacy, CEMSI partners with Sanofi in the 2024 Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (PCEDM) Convention to showcase responsible disposal of healthcare waste. CEMSI advocates zero-to-landfill methodologies as part of its sustainability agenda. To date, treated wastes are converted to inert ash through its Thermal Oxidizer. The final product is transformed into paver bricks suitable for landscaping use.

CPI joins the Mangrove Planting in Leyte with Isabel MENRO and BJMP

This Philippine Environment Month, CPI Team in Leyte joined the forces of MENRO-Isabel and the District BJMP for an annual mangrove tree planting activity. Part of the Only One Earth program, Cleanaway Philippine Inc. actively participated in the rehabilitation of our coastline protection in the province with our dedicated government officers. Hazardous waste management is our business, protecting the environment is our mission. This is the first leg of our tree planting activity as part of June’s celebration of Philippine Environment Month.

LGU-Silang Healthcare Waste Partnership

Home to CEMSI’s first treatment plant, Silang recently signed a contract for the collection, treatment and disposal of its hazardous medical wastes. These will come from the local COVID19 Isolation Facility and various Rural Health Units in municipality. Together with Hon. Mayor Corie Poblete, Municipal Administrator Miguel Fule and RHU Head Dr. Joyce Guarin, we are hand-in-hand in ensuring the public of a safe transportation and treatment of its infectious wastes. CEMSI has been in Silang for the past 16 years and we continue to be an active community partner in its various noble missions.
