A new healthcare waste treatment line is planned to be installed in Isabel, Leyte as part of CEMSI’s environmental service expansion in the region. This will have a capacity of 15,000 cu.m per day to handle the disinfection and treatment of all medical related wastes. This facility aims to address the growing healthcare waste problem from Regions VI, VII and VIII.
Two years ago, various medical wastes were indiscriminately disposed in the open archipelagic sea contaminating not just the water but also the valuable aquatic food resource in the region. This new environmental innovation will address the problem of improper hazwaste disposal. Last 2 February 2022, a public scoping activity was held to present the technology with the community stakeholders. It was attended by the representatives from LIDE, Barangay Libertad, the Sanitation Unit, SB Sangguniang Bayan Secretary and MENRO of LGU-Isabel.
Cleanaway Philippines, Inc. (CPI), located in Leyte Industrial Development Estate (LIDE), is a CEMSI affiliate in the Visayas which started its operations in 2013. Similar to the operations in its Cavite and Tarlac plants, the Leyte Plant also operates an integrated waste management system covering transportation, collection, storage, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes.

CPI supports Waste and Water Summit 2025

Ormoc City | Cleanaway Philippines, Inc. joins the Waste and Water Summit 2025 in Superdome. The summit gathers local and national leaders, experts, and stakeholders for knowledge exchange, best practices and convergence on innovative solutions in Region VIII. The program is spearheaded the Regional Ecology Center (REC) of Eastern Visayas. “The summit serves as a valuable platform for environment officers from local government units (LGUs) to stay informed on the latest developments in waste management, broaden their professional networks, and enhance their knowledge and skills.” Recognizing the strong link between solid waste and water pollution, this year’s summit incorporates water quality management topics in line with Republic Act 9275, otherwise known as the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004.

Some of the highlights are Waste-to-Energy concepts and other waste processing technologies; Wastewater Treatment Facility (WTF) in Sanitary Landfills; Septic design, septage management, and sewerage system; LGU Ormoc’s success story on septage management; Circular Economy practices in Ormoc City and the Province-wide compliance to RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Eastern Visayas State University Partnership

Isabel, Leyte – In our continuing efforts for community outreach, Cleanaway Philippines, Inc. signed a memorandum of agreement with the Eastern Visayas State University for the BS Chemical Engineering internship program. We take pride in knowing that there are students who are interested in pursuing a career in environmental management in their locality. We need this in every community – future engineers and environmentalists in every province to solve our waste problem. Congratulations to our interns!

Philippine Coast Guard, CPI Partnership on Hazardous Waste and Marine Pollution

Ormoc, Leyte – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), through its Marine Environmental Protection Command (MEPCOM), fulfilled its mandate in preventing marine pollution through effective enforcement of environmental laws within the maritime zones. With the launch of Task Force Ingat Dagat in Region VIII, the program addresses a comprehensive initiative designed to strengthen environmental protection through community engagement, pollution response training, and awareness campaigns targeting schools, fisherfolk, port stakeholders, and coastal communities.

In partnership with Cleanaway Philippines, Inc. in the Eastern Visayas, the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group – Eastern Visayas (MEPERG EV) spearheads a campaign with key industry stakeholders. We thank the agency for recognizing our role in driving economic growth with a shared responsibility to safeguard the local marine environment. 

The Task Force Ingat Yaman Dagat and Oil Spill Response Exercise was held last August 7 to 8, 2025 in Ormoc City with Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

Tacloban City – DOH Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development – Health Facility Development Cluster organized the “Hospital Summit 2024” last October 23-24, 2024 at Summit Hotel, Tacloban City. The event gathered the Chief of Hospitals, Hospital Administrators, and other Stakeholders to discuss the current issues on the region’s healthcare agenda. The collaboration initiated at the summit has the potential to evolve in several impactful ways to serve the citizens and the local environment. Cleanaway Philippines, Inc. (CPI) in Isabel, Leyte joined the event organized by the EMB Region VIII in Tacloban City for the annual gathering for the DENR Environment Month this June 2022. The event venue was filled with environmental artworks sending messages of conservation and preservation. This is participated by entries from the KalikasART program in Leyte Province from different schools and organizations. Select private companies were also invited to showcase their Best Environmental Management Practices. CPI was among the chosen partners as we will open the first healthcare waste treatment facility in the province. A Cleanclave Treatment System will operate this Q3 of 2022 to address the growing medical waste treatment demand of the region. With the COVID-19 pandemic still in our midst, national agencies and local government units are tirelessly finding solutions to address the infectious waste problem. Through Cleanway’s treatment plants and affiliates across the archipelago, we can be part of the waste solution.

CPI Mangrove Planting Philippine environment month 2022
This Philippine Environment Month, CPI Team in Leyte joined the forces of MENRO-Isabel and the District BJMP for an annual mangrove tree planting activity. Part of the Only One Earth program, Cleanaway Philippine Inc. actively participated in the rehabilitation of our coastline protection in the province with our dedicated government officers. Hazardous waste management is our business, protecting the environment is our mission. This is the first leg of our tree planting activity as part of June’s celebration of Philippine Environment Month.
